Reflecting on Rev. Justus Miwanda
After 22 years of faithful and dedicated service, Rev Justus has stepped down from his leadership role as Executive Director of IN Uganda. Although it’s sad to see him go, we celebrate so much together for what he has achieved over all this time.
For more than two decades, Justus has poured his heart, energy, and faith into this mission. What began as a small vision to help a community come to terms with HIV/AIDS that claimed a generation, impacting thousands of children and families.

Through his leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to IN Uganda, they have supported thousands of families over the last 22 years. Now with an annual turnover of about $1.9m, Rev Justus has lead IN Uganda to:
- support tens of thousands of children with an education,
- build and run a medical centre in Kiyindi with maternity unit,
- run an awareness and health programme for the many HIV/AIDs sufferers,
- set up and build a secondary school,
- expand and build new school buildings for the 3 IN Uganda schools,
- support 27 villages through with improved access to clean water, sanitation facilities and hygiene education,
- train and equip thousands of farmers to improve their methods and to access markets,
- and, latterly, to run a disability inclusion project helping disabled children to be celebrated and welcomed into their schools and communities.

But perhaps the greatest impact has been spiritual. Through the ministry’s work, many people have encountered the love of Jesus for the first time. As an Anglican priest, Justus’ heart has always been to help people meet the risen Lord Jesus and accept him into their lives. Through the Gospel, lives have been changed, faith has grown, and communities have been strengthened through the message of hope that Justus has faithfully shared and led with the dedicated staff at IN Uganda.
I am grateful to Justus for what he taught me: to listen with humility, respond thoughtfully, and never make knee-jerk decisions. My favourite memory of our time together includes watching him lay hands on a newly drilled freshwater well in the presence of an entire village, as we all bowed our heads; he reminded us that this was a representation of Christ’s life poured out for his people. It was also always fun to see him ask many new people he met, especially young people, whether they knew Jesus.

Rev. Justus would ask me to say to all IN supporters, thank you. None of this would have been possible without your partnership. Your prayers, generosity, and encouragement have helped make this mission a reality. Together, we have been able to bring both practical help and the good news of Christ to those who need it most.

Reverend Justus Miwanda
As Justus steps into a new season of life, we want to express our deepest gratitude to God for his extraordinary leadership and service. His legacy is not only found in buildings constructed or programs established, but in the countless lives that have been touched, restored, and set on a new path.

Dr Gerald Naluweiro, the new Executive Director of International Needs Uganda
Over the coming months, we will be sharing more about the future of the ministry and how the work will continue to grow and develop. In July, we will welcome Justus back to the UK to be with us, greet as many of you as possible, say thank you, and introduce our new ED, Dr Gerald Naluweiro. Stand by for more details coming. Meanwhile, the need remains great, and the vision that has guided this work for so many years continues.
We invite you to join us in giving thanks for Justus’ remarkable 22 years of service. Please keep him and his family in your prayers as they begin this new chapter.
