Starfish Uganda

Starfish Uganda

Helping one person at a time creates a ripple of change!

It all started in 2009, when Mary Mills and Moses Duche dared to dream of a future where disabled children — those forgotten and cast aside by society — could have a shot at something better. This dream blossomed into Starfish Uganda.

As of 1st September 2024, the story has a new chapter: International Needs Uganda took full ownership, ensuring this incredible work not only continues, but thrives.

This is about transforming lives, where disabled children no longer live in the shadows, silenced by poverty and the weight of stigma. We’re shining a light on those who need it most, and together we can spark new hope, strength, and dignity back into one life at a time.

Starfish Families

Starfish Families provides essential support to vulnerable children, particularly those with disabilities. The programme helps cover school fees, medical expenses, and therapeutic care — allowing young people to step into a future where independence isn’t just a dream.

The Starfish Clinic

Nestled in the heart of Kayunga District, within a government medical centre, the Starfish Clinic is a place where recovery begins.

Here, Godwin, a respected physiotherapist, works alongside Bridget, a dedicated nurse specialising in disabilities, to support children and their families each day.

Each week, around 100 children and their parents visit for physiotherapy, leaving not only with improved strength but also with a sense of hope. This journey doesn’t end there. Through the IN child assistance programme, many children are linked to special needs schools, opening doors to new opportunities that they hadn’t imagined before.

Pastor Aaron heads up Hope in Pain Ministries and Bible Exhibition

Hope in Pain Ministries: Turning pain into purpose

What happens when you’re a mother, struggling to care for a child with a disability, or when you’ve lost everything? Hope in Pain Ministries is here to answer that question. A community of mothers gather once a month in fellowship, and pain is transformed into purpose.

In these circles of support, encouragement has become a regular activity. Here, women find the strength to persevere together. It’s a safe space where healing doesn’t just happen physically, but spiritually too.

Bringing the Bible to life – Spiritual Growth

Breathing life into the Bible is exactly what the Bible Exhibition Ministries is all about. Across the districts of Kayunga, Buikwe, and Mukono, the stories of the Gospel are acted out passionately by a team of volunteers and a pastor. The stories engage children in a memorable, loving way.

This is an opportunity to build faith and community where the message of Christ’s love is shared.
