Nepal flash floods: urgent relief packs for vulnerable families
Help families survive the month ahead as they work out how to rebuild their lives.
After being shocked by the devastating flash flooding in northern and central Nepal, together with our partners at International Needs Nepal, we planned a relief response to help families whose lives have been devastated by this crisis.
This serious flooding hit the Bhotekoshi River on 26 August, following a glacier collapse and ice-and-rock avalanche upstream near the Nepal-Tibet border.
This sudden wall of water swept through key settlements in Rasuwa, Dhading and Nuwakot, destroying homes and bridges, and severely damaging infrastructure, including hydropower projects.
Over a thousand fatalities have been reported, and over 5,000 people have been reported still missing. Emergency operations involving military helicopters are actively underway. Nepal says it will need billions in funding to rebuild after these floods. [1] At the moment, our friends at International Needs Nepal are safe.
In Phase 1 of our response, we will help families survive the month ahead as they work out how to rebuild their lives. We will be distributing Family Relief Packs to 100 families and will keep you updated on our ongoing plans.

stories
We can also confirm that our IN Nepal team are safe. We have been regular contact with them as the situation has been unfolding:
“None of our children, Lydia ladies, Community workers or staff have been affected by this disaster. We are grateful to share that all of our children and their families are safe and well” – Pranesh, IN Nepal Team.
Our Nepali partners want to serve their neighbours and others affected. Will you join us?
We invite you to keep praying for Nepal; for those who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods, for communities still waiting for help, and for the teams working to reach those most in need.

How we spend your money
For every £1 you donate to this appeal, we will allocate 25p of your donation to cover general support and running costs. There is a small chance that we will raise more money than is needed for this appeal. If this happens, we'll spend any additional funds on other International Needs projects – wherever the need is greatest.
